It has been announced today that Pioneer Productions have collaborated with the renowned World Gold Council, and global superstar Idris Elba, to investigate the transformative power of gold and how it impacts different cultures, economies, and societies in the 21^st century in a new 65-minute film – Gold: A Journey with Idris Elba.

Gold is essential to human existence, embedded in our history and politics, in our art and culture, in our healthcare and communications systems, and in so much more.

In this one-off documentary, Golden Globe award-winning English actor, director, musician, and producer Idris Elba will take audiences on a global journey – from Ghana to South Africa, Canada to London – to examine our love affair with that unique and most precious of all metals, Gold.

He will also explore the enduring relationship we have with gold, from Californian gold rush prospectors to gold’s role in modern financial systems. Treated with a cinematic visual style and guided by the embedded experience of Idris Elba – this documentary will connect with people from every continent - to discover how gold has become our invaluable ally in creating value and driving change.
