From baby bumps to disco divas, and wedding planners to wrestling rogues – Firecracker Scotland announces a slate of new commissions for the brand new BBC Scotland channel which launches on February 24th 2019.
Disco fever is sweeping through the gym halls and community centres of Scotland from Elgin to Edinburgh, and Mini Disco Divas (6x60’) gives a unique insight into the lives of Scottish schoolgirls and boys swept up in this highly competitive freestyle dance craze.
Rogue to Wrestler (3x60’) goes behind the doors of the Insane Championship Wrestling headquarters in Glasgow, one of Europe’s biggest wrestling promotion companies. Following 8 self-styled “rogues, misfits and outcasts” who are put through their paces by ICW founder Mark Dallas and his team – can any of them shape up their act, become professional wrestlers, and potentially walk away with the ‘Rogue To Wrestler’ title belt?
Going behind the hashtags, #BumpBirthBaby (3x60’) follows the selfie-savvy mums and mums-to-be as they film their own stories for social media, from early pregnancy all the way through to bump, birth and beyond.
Getting Hitched, Asian Style (3x60’) follows Saffron Events, one of Scotland’s most prestigious wedding planners catering to the nation’s vibrant Asian community, as they create spectacular weddings over a summer season.
These commissions begin a busy 2019 for Firecracker Scotland, continuing a period of success and growth over the past 12 months: including the bumper commission of The Customer Is Always Right (15x45’) for BBC Daytime, a new series that puts an innovative spin on the entrepreneur format. A regular cast of ‘customers’ from all over the UK will unbox, test, and rate the products of some of the UK’s budding inventors. And, because the customer is always right, their collective scores will determine the day’s winning invention.
It also follows on the heels of the critically acclaimed, Scottish BAFTA nominated series Class Of Mum and Dad (Channel 4) being adapted for the Netherlands, as well as being in advanced talks for adaptations in other international territories.
Elspeth O’Hare, Creative Director of Firecracker Scotland, says “We are delighted to be making this range of brilliant series, all of which have that unique Firecracker mix of humour and warmth. It kicks off a really exciting year for Firecracker Scotland, as well as having projects in development for a range of national broadcasters, it’s fantastic to be part of BBC Scotland from day one”
